Coronation Street spoilers: Acid attack in Daisy and Justin stalker plot | Soaps

Things are set to escalate between Daisy and Justin (Picture: ITV)

Coronation Street is set to air horrifying scenes next month, when Daisy Midgeley’s (Charlotte Jordan) obsessive stalker Justin (Andrew Still) targets her in an acid attack.

Viewers have watched with grim unease as Justin’s obsessive behaviour has spiralled, refusing to back off and leave the Corrie favourite alone.

Daisy, who is engaged to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), is becoming increasingly frightened by him – particularly after he even pretends that she is his wife-to-be.

‘Daisy is a feisty, confident character. She’s got a gob on her and she’s not afraid to tell people to do one if she feels she needs to,’ Charlotte told ‘But what you see is this guy just totally taking her power from her.

‘You can’t control how other people behave and you can’t control how other people interpret things. So she feels totally powerless and you’ll just slowly see Justin eradicate and decimate all the things that make her Daisy which is really sad.

‘Luckily she’s got people around her that love her and are going to support her through it but no one can really understand what she’s going through. He’s going to slowly but surely destroy everything that makes her her, really.’

In the next stages of the storyline, the ITV soap will show harrowing scenes in which Justin throws acid at Daisy.

It reflects a terrifying statistic in the UK, which, per capita, has one of the highest rates of recorded acid attacks in the world. In 2018, in London alone, corrosive substances were used in 310 crimes.

Coronation Street has sought guidance from Women’s Aid when researching the upcoming story, and is also working with The Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a charity that supports victims of stalking.

‘We were really delighted to be invited to feed into this storyline on such an amazingly well-known programme,’ Saskia Garner, Head of Policy and Campaigns for the trust told us.

‘We know from our research that at the point of rejection where one party, normally the stalker, realises and takes on board the fact that the other person isn’t going to partake in the relationship they want, it can be a real trigger for an escalation in violence and aggression towards the victim because they realise they’ve lost control.

‘How can they regain that control? Can they emit some kind of punishment for that person not complying with their idealistic worldview of where they see that perceived relationship going?

‘So we cannot underestimate how serious stalking is and the victims we speak to really tell us that they are really in fear of, not just violence, but not knowing what’s happening to them and what might happen next.

‘We really feel it’s important for programmes like Coronation Street to air these issues and highlight the impact of stalking that affects so many people.’

The soap last week was filming the wedding of Daisy and Daniel – and pictures obtained by showed worry on the faces of the groom and the guests when the bride is nowhere to be seen.

Is Justin set to destroy Daisy’s life on the day she will be most looking to the future?
