Sainsbury’s popular Nectar card is being given a revamp.

The loyalty card now allows users to enjoy immediate discounts on 300 items in-store and online – talk about savings.

Cardholders will still be able to enjoy personalised offers when they ‘Smartshop’ in stores using scan-as-you-go.

Amid the cost of living crisis, many shoppers take advantage of loyalty schemes that allow you to collect points every time you buy something.

These points can in turn go towards getting money off your future shopping – or can in many cases be put towards other rewards – from free hot drinks through to flights and hotels.

One of the best-known schemes is the Nectar card run by Sainsbury’s, which allows you to rack up points while doing your regular supermarket shop.

But just how much are your Nectar points worth, and how can you use them?

How much are your Sainsbury’s Nectar card points worth?

Currently, one Nectar point is worth 0.5p – or the equivalent of 0.5% cashback on your shopping.

Therefore 100 points are worth 50p, 200 are worth £1, 1000 Nectar points have a cash value of £5, and 2000 Nectar points will get you £10.

How do you earn Nectar points?

You can earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent on qualifying goods when you shop either in Sainsbury’s or online.

Certain goods, such as gift vouchers, baby milk products, gift vouchers, postage stamps and spirits and liqueurs are not eligible for Nectar points – you can see a full list of ineligible products on Sainsbury’s website.

You can also collect one Nectar point for every litre of fuel you buy at a Sainsbury’s petrol station.

These points are calculated on your transaction total after any discounts have been taken.

As well as the regular Nectar points system, look out for offers such as double points on certain items when you are doing your weekly shop.

And you can also collect points shopping with other retailers including Argos and Habitat, as well as other online brands including ASOS, Very, JustEat, and Dominos.

Visit the Nectar website or app to see just who is eligible.

What can you spend Nectar points on?

You can use your Nectar points towards your shopping at Sainsbury’s, or spend them at almost 300 brand partners including Argos, Habitat, Esso, and eBay.

Other options for spending your points include buying a hot drink at Caffe Nero, a stay in a participating hotel, movies from Sky Store, or even a trip on EuroStar.

Alternatively, you can donate your points to a good cause with Nectar Donate.
