Former Married at First Sight Australia star Booka Nile has shared her grandmother died just hours after the star gave birth to her first child.

Appearing on the reality series in 2021, musician and mental health worker Booka, 33, was matched with psychology student and electrician Brett Helling, 33, however they broke up before the final decision.

In September last year she revealed she was pregnant, writing on social media that motherhood was ‘not something I ever thought I’d experience’.

This week she shared photos cradling her son in hospital, writing: ‘Can’t believe it’s possible to love someone this much. Welcome to the world my little Easter baby.’

However, she later said that not long after giving birth, her grandmother had died.

‘This has been such a bittersweet time. Hours after my baby body drew his first breath this weekend, my nana drew her last,’ she wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her nana stroking Booka’s pregnant belly.

She added: ‘As my dad became a grandfather for the first time, he lost his mother. RIP Nana. We love you. You are so missed already.’

When announcing she had given birth, Booka’s post was flooded with messages of congratulations from well-wishers, with several from other former MAFS stars.

‘Congratulations, how exciting! Welcome to the parent club,’ Bryce Ruthven wrote.

‘Congratulations honey!!! So exciting!!!! xxx And a moment for that luscious head of hair!,’ Melissa Carelli added.

Other messages were also posted from Chris Jensen, Clare Verrall, Liam Cooper and Sarah Roza.

At the time of revealing her pregnancy last year, Booka wrote that she felt her circumstances to become a mother would never ‘be right’.

‘I don’t think they’ll ever be “right” but my baby boy does not really gaf (give a f***) about that,’ she said.

‘Against all odds he has made himself a little home inside my belly and is growing bigger and stronger every day.

‘His dad and I were very very shocked to find out that we’d made a little life by accident and that he had taken up residency in my uterus.’

She said that while she was not with her baby’s father, and had ‘no plans to be’, they were ‘working on becoming great friends and plan to coparent together’.

‘Our only goal is that our son is loved and cared for by both of us and that he grows up knowing how loved he is by his mum and dad.’

Married at First Sight is streaming on All4.
