MP must do 270 hours community service for putting lives at risk from Covid

Margaret Ferrier is likely to face further calls to resign (Picture: PA)

An MP who travelled from London to Glasgow by train despite knowing she had Covid-19 has this afternoon will be made to complete a 270-hour community payback order.

Margaret Ferrier, admitted putting people at risk and even spoke in the House of Commons while awaiting the result of her test.

The former SNP MP, 62, visited different parts of the capital while it was unclear whether she had the virus in September 2020.

The Rutherglen and Hamilton West representative – who is still sitting as an independent MP despite calls for her to step down – is now likely to face further pressure to resign.

Ferrier admitted she had culpably and recklessly exposed the public ‘to the risk of infection, illness and death’ at a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court last month.

During the hearing, the court was told that Ferrier did a test for Covid-19 on September 26 after showing symptoms, including a cough.
