Newcastle United are considering submitting a £50million bid for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in the January transfer window in a ploy to see off competition from Arsenal.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after youngsters in world football following an eye-catching 12 months in Ukraine.

Mudryk was Man of the Match last November when Shakhtar beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and he earned a standing ovation from spectators in the Spanish capital.

The winger admitted in August that he would jump at the chance to move to the Premier League and said a move to Arsenal would be of particular interest.

‘Yes. I think every guy dreams about the Premier League,’ said Mudryk.

Asked specifically about Arsenal he said: ‘Yes, yes. It’s hard to say but Arsenal is a very good team. Very good coach, I like the way they play.’

But the Gunners face strong competition from around the Premier League, with thei claiming Newcastle are considering a £50m move for the Ukranian.

That would be more than Arsenal would be willing to pay for the winger at this moment in time and Shakhtar are understandably keen to sell to the biggest bidder.

Eddie Howe endured a frustrating summer transfer window, with the Magpies missing out on a string of their top targets.

But he’s been promised significant money to invest in the squad in January, when other clubs will be looking to save their budget for the end of the season.
